Honeywell Performance Materials Expo brings opportunities for exhibition and cooperation
2020 is the third consecutive time that Honeywell has participated in the Expo. "Honeywell attaches great importance to the platform of the CIIE, because the CIIE has really brought us a lot of opportunities for exhibition and cooperation. At the end of the second CIIE last year, we signed an agreement to participate in the third CIIE. The company attaches great importance to it and prepares to participate in the exhibition in advance. Liu Maoshu, vice president and general manager of Honeywell Performance Materials and Technology Group and general manager of Asia Pacific, told the "Daily Economic News" reporter (hereinafter referred to as NBD) that every year at the CIIE, the company signs some cooperation strategic agreements related to future refineries and interconnected factories, which also play a role as a weather vane for the industry.
At the CIIE, Honeywell Performance Materials and Technology Group signed a series of agreements with seven companies: Donghua Energy, North Huajin, Zhejiang Petrochemical, PetroChina, Juhua Group, Jiutai Group, and Shengao Chemical, on technologies, products and solutions related to "future refineries" and "connected factories".
Liu Maoshu also revealed that in January ~ October, Honeywell Performance Materials and Technology Group has achieved positive year-on-year growth in the Chinese market.
NBD:Is the overall performance of the company affected by the epidemic this year?
Liu Maoshu:In the first quarter, we were hit by the epidemic, but we quickly made various efforts and quickly stabilized. In the second quarter, we achieved a rapid recovery. This year, the entire petroleum refining and chemical industry has been challenged, but in January ~ October, we have achieved positive year-on-year growth.
NBD:Has the outbreak of the epidemic brought some new thinking to Honeywell Performance Materials and Technology Group?
Liu Maoshu:The pandemic has brought many challenges, but also some opportunities. For example, we launched a remote operation solution, which has been further leveraged during the pandemic. In addition, many customers are also rethinking the importance of "connected factories" and "refineries of the future" in this process, and how to improve the speed of decision-making through technical means such as big data.
In addition, we are also promoting business development in new areas, such as medical packaging materials, to fill the shortage of medical glass related to the new crown vaccine.
Strengthen localization capacity building
NBD:You have been on your first anniversary as Vice President and General Manager of Honeywell's Performance Materials and Technologies Group and General Manager of Asia Pacific. During this period, what are the main adjustments made to the company's business?
Liu Maoshu:After taking office, we analyzed the company's business characteristics and formed several strategic goals. First, improve the level of localization and strengthen localization capabilities; second, accelerate the deployment of connected factories and future refineries; Third, explore new areas and drive new growth in the business.
Looking back on this year, the epidemic has accelerated the implementation of our strategic deployments, especially in terms of localization capacity building, such as strengthening the localized supply chain. This is also due to the fact that we started localization very early, so in the event of an epidemic, even if overseas experts cannot be on site, our local Chinese team can independently support the construction of many large items.
NBD:Honeywell China announced its emerging markets strategy this year. Specific to the performance materials and technology group, what will be the layout?
Liu Maoshu:For the sinking market, Honeywell Performance Materials and Technology Group has also come up with special solutions. For example, as third- and fourth-tier cities continue to strengthen infrastructure construction, we see many opportunities in this regard on how to improve the asphalt used on roads and strengthen their bearing capacity and life.
