Anthropogenic sources of CO mainly come from vehicle exhaust and the combustion of fossil fuels. According to estimates of fossil fuel consumption, combustion conditions and actual vehicle exhaust emissions, human-made emissions of carbon monoxide amounts to hundreds of millions of tons per year. More than 50% of this comes from exhaust gases emitted by vehicles.
Natural CO mainly comes from the combustion of terpene compounds and other organisms released from oceans, forest fires and forests, in addition to the "contribution" of methane and other hydrocarbons to the atmosphere carbon monoxide.

Sources of indoor carbon monoxide: mainly crowd smoking, heating equipment and kitchens. A cigarette contains 13mg carbon monoxide, and the main reason for carbon monoxide in heating equipment and kitchens is caused by incomplete combustion of fuel.
